Handall Hotel’s handy location puts you right in Cancun’s commercial downtown area, or El Centro as the locals call it. Its biggest neighbor is Plaza Las Americas, attached to Plaza Malecon Americas- a gigantic shopping complex that takes about 5 to 7 minutes of walking time from here. Inside there is a huge food court and cinema and supermarkets such as Chedraui here all major international clothing brands have set up shop! Perfect place during midday heat outside on the streets; getting some cheap eats or buying any supplies needed for the trip.

Parque de las Palapas is just a short cab ride, or about twenty minutes on foot. This is essentially the main square of downtown Cancun and it really comes alive at night. Families pack the area along with street performers and food vendors selling everything from corn in a cup to wafer rolls with cheese to churros. Safe, brightly lit, and full of energy, it seems totally different from any tourist area. You are also on Avenida Tulum which means being atop Cancun’s main artery where catching a cab or finding banks and pharmacies becomes very easy.

You do not have to stay at a resort to get to the beach. From the hotel, you can walk over to either Avenida Tulum or Avenida Coba where the bus stops are located and wait for an R-1 or R-2 bus. These public buses which operate 24 hours take people like me straight into the Hotel Zone for a very low fare.[ They stop at all major public beaches such as Playa Delfines (famous because of its CANCUN sign) and Playa Tortugas.] By staying at Hotel Handall, I can enjoy these world-class beaches during daytime and return to affordable food and lodging by night.
