Hidden Tips
A good tip for making the most out of your time here is by familiarizing yourself with the R-1 and R-2 bus routes. These are basically Cancun’s heartbeat. They cost less than a dollar (pay in Pesos) and sometimes seem to be party buses on their own, with loud music and fast drivers. Do not waste 20 dollars paying a taxi to take you to the beach when the safe, frequent, fun bus can also get you there just as well! Only make sure you hold tight because an aggressive driver will be behind that wheel.
On food, skip the hotel breakfast and head to VIPs or Sanborns restaurants in or near the Plaza Las Americas mall for a cool, air-conditioned traditional Mexican breakfast of chilaquiles or molletes. Better yet, find the small taco stands on side streets in the evening. Downtown Cancun tacos al pastor are way better and cheaper than anything you can find in the Hotel Zone.
Noise management is important in this property. Since it stands close to busy avenues, request a room facing the pool or inside the property rather than outside toward the street. The difference in noise levels is massive. If you end up in a room facing the street, then earplugs are a necessary accessory. Also, always carry small denominations of Mexican Pesos. While the hotel and mall take cards, the buses, street food vendors, and small convenience stores operate strictly on cash, and getting change for a large bill can be difficult.
